About the Studio
My name is Ari. Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I am a commercial photographer based in Corvallis, Oregon in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley. My background is in photojournalism, sports and event photography when I started my career in the 1990s. For the last few decades my focus has been as a generalist photographer in everything from the dance and performing arts industries to real estate, education, and editorial areas.
I have a particular depth of experience working with dance companies, schools, choreographers, and professional and aspiring dancers–helping each find an audience, sell tickets, find funding, and generally promote their efforts through great photography. And this is how I see my role in any client relationship. I am here to help clients get their handiwork in front of an audience in the most compelling way I can. I love learning as much as possible about my subjects. This includes things like a short stint taking ballet and Argentine tango classes–a spectacle that can only be appreciated after you have met me. By the way, I ended up marrying my Argentine tango instructor, but that's another story.
If a client needs help articulating their vision, if they simply need to refine and execute their vision, or if they need me to come up with a photographic campaign all on my own, I'm up for it. What I love about being a photographer is the process of translating an idea from one form into another. It could be the idea behind a piece of choreography, the educational philosophy of a Montessori School, the soul and character of a house, or the personality of the main subject in a magazine article–whatever it is, I love the challenge of making it appear in photos.

In case you are interested, I am a dedicated father with two fantastic daughters, a brilliant wife, a floppy Main Coon cat, a surprisingly talkative Carolina Dog (my first dog), and about 50 boring tropical fish. I spends most of my "free" time driving my kids around and trying desperately to forget the time when I had to resort to programming and linux system administration to make ends meet.
